Greyhound is an iconic American brand that has been part of America’s history and values. With over 100 years of existence, it is the passenger bus line with more than 3,800 destinations in North America: The United States, Canada, and Mexico.

We worked with Greyhound for a year before starting operations in Mexico. We participated in all the strategic planning and even in the insights research of the entire market to define the complete marketing strategy.
Greyhound arrived in Mexico with a very disruptive offer:

Have their own terminal in the city of Monterrey, unlike the rest of the passenger bus lines that are located within the same “bus station”

Offer tickets starting at $1 to travel from Monterrey to the United States

Most important challenge: sell tickets in an industry whose online sales on a digital platform was barely 2%

We established 3 main objectives for the brand’s launch in Mexico and its terminal in the city of Monterrey:

Maintain the brand image and communication messages that had already been developed in the US for brand consistency

Build brand awareness in an unknown market

Encourage online ticket sales

We developed and implemented a two-way communication strategy:

 

On one hand, a branding campaign to increase brand awareness, and a digital conversion campaign on the other

 

  • We had billboards in areas and roads where our target usually travels, while simultaneously being present in popular banks and retail stores aimed at our target
  • We closed with a digital sales conversion campaign in which we generated traffic to the website that was optimized every day to constantly improve the cost of lead acquisition
  • Many consumers use the Monterrey subway and one of the lines would go directly to the Greyhound terminal. For this reason, we implemented a unique strategy, which was named “Domination”. That allowed us to literally take over all possible spaces within Cuauhtemoc station which is the city’s main subway station

Today, Greyhound has become a key player in passenger transportation in Monterrey due to the joint efforts of our companies working together. More than 60% of its sales are ON-LINE and with double-digit annual sales growth

Since the beginning he has been a key part of the team, contributing with his experience in traditional media planning and buying, generating successful campaigns for our clients. Rudy began his career more than 30 years ago as a Media Executive at Leo Burnett. In a short time, he was promoted to Media Supervisor, and as a result he is hired to be part of Media Planning, the first specialized media agency in Mexico. Shortly after, he was invited to participate as Media Director to manage 50% of Young & Rubicam’s accounts. Already as a Media Director he goes to Universal McCann for a time and later founds in Monterrey N.L. one of the most important media agencies today: Media Solutions.
